Try Freestyle

Do you have young skiers who are interested in skiing bumps, jumps, the park and all over the mountain?  Come out for a day with the Apex coaches and see first hand a sample of the program.  Try Freestyle is being offered December 17th and 30th.  Sign up and read more about Try Freestyle by clicking here.

Jumps and Bumps

Jumps & Bumps is a program designed to give young skiers (between the ages of 5 to 12) an introduction to the skills of Freestyle Skiing in a safe and fun environment. Jumps & Bumps is a four-step program that involves a passport book that the skier’s coach fills out as the athlete progresses through the skills. Once the skier has completed all the levels, they will be awarded their “wings” the official crest of the Canadian Freestyle Team. Skiers entering the program must be able to demonstrate snowplow turns on easy terrain and they must also be comfortable with riding a ski lift. Not only is the Jumps & Bumps program a fun way to ski and make friends, it also prepares young skiers with the basic skills needed to become future Olympic Champions.

Jumps & Bumps 1 day program runs from 10am – 3:00pm for 12 consecutive Saturdays.

Start date: January 7, 2012

Current Fee: $370.00 due December 1st.  After December 1st, a $75 fee will be assessed. The deadline for early registration has been extended for Jumps and Bumps.

Fee does not include Canadian Freestyle Ski Association membership, license and insurance - see registration page for information and AFC refund policy.

Development

Development freestyle is geared for kids over the age of twelve who want to sharpen their freestyle skills whether it be free skiing, moguls, half pipe, terrain park or on the air site. Our goal here is to teach the FUNdamentals and skills in a controlled environment with qualified coaching. Many of our athletes that go through Freestyle Development move into the highest level of our program, Competitive Freestyle.

Development program includes on snow training every Saturday (9am to 3pm) from mid November to April.

Current Fee: $650.00 due December 1st.  After December 1st, a $75 fee will be assessed.

Fee does not include Canadian Freestyle Ski Association membership, license and insurance - see registration page for information and AFC refund policy.

Junior Competitive

The Junior Competitive Program was established in 2010 as a 'step-up' in Jumps & Bumps for aspiring young athletes who had a will to compete.  In the first 2 years of the program all 10 of the original members have had a podium finish in a Regional or BC Series event.  Our goal in this program is to introduce the same activities as Competitive Freestyle while still maintaining the emphasis on having fun.  Athletes will be trained in the competitve aspects of freestyle skiing Saturdays and Sundays from 9am-3pm with additional holiday camps and pre season dryland training.  The program runs from September to April and is open to young skiers 8 to 12 years of age upon evaluation by the coaches.

Current Fee: $835.00 due December 1st.  After December 1st, a $75 fee will be assessed.

Fee does not include Canadian Freestyle Ski Association membership, license and insurance - see registration page for information and AFC refund policy.

Competitive Freestyle

This is the highest level of our program designed for all aspiring young skiers that want to take their skills to the top. With great coaching and a program that consists of trampoline, dryland and at least two days a week of on snow training, you will be able to reach some of your highest goals.

Competitive program includes on snow training every Saturday and Sunday (9am to 3pm) from mid November to April. Skiers will compete in three BC Series events throughout the season.

Current Fee: $935.00 due December 1st.  After December 1st, a $75 fee will be assessed.

*What is Freestyle Skiing?

Freestyle Skiing is all about having the most possible fun that you can have on your skis.  Freestyle skiers enjoy moguls, bumps, jumps, terrain parks, free-skiing and rail features.  Every ski area in BC has access to great terrain for Freestyle Skiing.  With some guidance from a trained professional coach, skiers learn to Freestyle Ski in a safe, and fun learning environment.  World Champion mogul skier Kristi Richards of British Columbia got her start by just having fun with her family, friends and coaches at her local ski area (Apex!) as a kid just like you.

*How can you "Try Freestyle"?

The BC Freestyle Ski Association and its partners have set up a brand new program for kids ages 8 and up to "Try Freestyle" skiing.  If you are an experienced skier and want to learn more about "Freestyle" in a fun and safe environment at your local ski area this is the perfect opportunity for you to "Try Freestyle".  Contact Apex Freestyle Coach Ken Kuroda at afckenni@gmail.com for more information on the Try Freestyle events coming to Apex in December.
